Pulling Robotics into the Future
Melbourne-based startup developing artificial muscles that move like real ones
Meet Poly-motion
Poly-motion is a Melbourne-based startup pioneering the future of robotics with advanced artificial muscles crafted from liquid crystalline elastomers (LCEs). Founded by Joshua Ince, PhD, we specialise in electrically responsive polymer fibers that replicate human muscle function.
Emulating biology, more cost-effective than mechanical actuators, and at a fraction of the weight.

Our core
Liquid Crystalline Elastomers boast incredibly high power-to-weight ratios and sublimely match the mechanical properties of human tissue. They are not an upgrade from actuators, they are a paradigm shift.

Advanced Prosthetics
Weight and cost are two of the biggest problems with advanced prosthetics. Around 1/3 of the price and around 80% of the weight lies in the actuators. LCE artificial muscles slashes this significantly.
Exoskeltons
Bulky and heavy actuators used in exoskeletons burden wearers. Replacing these with LCE artificial muscles could lead to slimmer and lighter exoskeletons and assistive wearables.
Humanoid robots
Lightweight, compliant, low-cost biomimetic artificial muscles, powering the coming wave of humanoids
